Ohio Covenant Marriage Legislation

Covenant Marriage legislation is again being considered in Ohio.
There are 2 Ohio Covenant Marriage Bills:
House Bill 268
Senate Bill 140.

Initial proponent testimony was heard by the House Judiciary Committee in June on HB 268.
More discussion of pertinent issues and proponent testimony will occur next month after the
Ohio Congress reconvenes on Sept. 13th.

Below are links to House Bill 268 and Senate Bill 140.

One key provision of the bills is a requirement for applicants for a marriage license to
receive 12 hours of premarital education on communication training, conflict resolution,
values clarification, and goals of marriage and to complete a standardized marital inventory
(PREPARE or FOCCUS) before the probate judge may issue a marriage license.
